The only thing better than Birthright is Birthright with UC San Diego Hillel. This June, Hillel sent an entire bus of students on the trip of a lifetime, immersing them in Israeli culture and allowing them to build a direct, in-person connection with Israel for the very first time. The trip was staffed by Hillel’s own Edi Mesoznikov and Sophie Needelman whose previous relationships with students enhanced the sense of community created within the group.
Highlights of the trip included wine tasting at Kibbutz Amiad in the north, a visit to Sderot’s neighborhoods and police headquarters, and a private tour of Haifa’s beautiful Bahai Gardens. Students were lucky enough to experience Shabbat in Israel not once but twice, which gave them the opportunity to have a tranquil Shabbat in the North as well as a spiritually charge Shabbat in Jerusalem overlooking the Old City.
Birthright is often the launchpad for the lifelong relationships students build with Israel, and many of the UC San Diego Hillel Birthright participants even extended their trip last minute after falling in love with the country the first week of being there. As the valiant Tritons of Birthright Bus #755 embarked on their personal post-trip journeys, began internships in the heart of Tel Aviv, and changed their summer plans to spend more time in Israel, Hillel could not be prouder of the contributions each participant made to the trip and will continue to make as they return to campus this Fall.
