This year, Hillel is proud to be partnering with the San Diego Teen Initiative as the facilitator of their Engagement Training. Hillel Director of Student Life Sophie Needelman led a training in Hillel’s Engagement Methodology for the San Diego Teen Initiative Peer Leadership Fellows, introducing them to tools they can utilize to assess and improve the current landscape of Jewish teen life in San Diego. The training involved the an exploration of the Peer Leadership Fellows’ role as social networkers who can leverage their own connections within the Jewish community to explore new ways to engage their peers Jewishly. The Fellows examined their own Jewish identity and motivations for Jewish involvement, as well as how to communicate those elements of themselves to others who may be on a different path or part of their Jewish journey. By applying Hillel’s Engagement Methodology to their work with teens in San Diego, the Peer Leadership Fellows are honing in on their mission and vision for more diverse, engaged, and vibrant expressions of Jewish life in San Diego.
