Israel Fellow Dor Guest Speaks about Yemenite Culture in Israel

Hillel’s Israel Fellow Dor Gwieta was asked to be a guest speaker about Jewish Yemenite immigration to Israel in Professor Adi Hershkovitz-Amir’s class at UCSD about immigration. Dor shared his personal story and the story of his grandmother who came from Yemen to Israel in 1950’s. The Gwieta family laid their Israeli roots in a town north of Tel Aviv known for its large Yemenite population. Dor’s also shared about Yemenite culture, the preservation of Jewish culture in Yemen for over 2,500 years, and the hardship they experienced upon immigrating to Israel.
